Für die Formatierung von Texten oder das Erzeugen von Hyperlinks zu anderen Artikel oder auch zu anderen Webseiten, gibt es ein paar sehr einfache Regeln. Diese kann man über die [[Genealogy.net:Hilfe|Hilfe]]-Seite (links im Menuü) jederzeit erreichen. <br />

Möchte man z. B. ein Wort im '''Fettdruck''' erscheinen lassen, so schreibt man: <nowiki>'''Dies ist ein fettgedruckter Satz'''</nowiki>.<br />

Einen Link zu einem anderen GenWiki-Artikel kann man sehr einfach erzeugen. Der Name des zu verlinkenden Artikel sei: '''Sandbox'''. Dann schreibt man einfach <nowiki>[[Sandbox]]</nowiki>. Dargestellt wird: [[Sandbox]]<br />

Einen Link zu einer anderen, externen, Webseite kann man ebenfalls sehr einfach erzeugen.<br />

1.) Soll nur die URL gezeigt werden, schreibt man diese einfach als Klartext: http://www.computergenealogie.de<br />

2.) Soll nicht der Link sichtbar sein, sondern ein anderer Text, schreibt man stattdessen '''<nowiki>[http://www.computergenealogie.de Computergenealogie]</nowiki>'''. Dargestellt wird dies dann als [http://www.computergenealogie.de Computergenealogie]. Der Unterschied zum internen Link besteht als darin, dass nur eine eckige Klammer benutzt wird und das zwischen Linkadresse und Anzeigetext ein Leerzeichen statt eines senkrechten Striches steht.<br />

==Was tun, wenn die Formatierungsleiste nicht sichtbar ist?==<br />

Die Formatierungsleiste muss nicht unbedingt sichtbar sein, da dies jeder Anwender über seine persönlichen Einstellungen festlegen kann. Zu den persönlichen Einstellungen kommt man (wenn man angemeldet ist) ziemlich weit oben auf der Seite über den Punkt "einstellungen". s. Abbildung:<br />
